Meals on Wheels Pet Partners

As important as pets are in our lives, imagine the role of companion pets in fighting isolation and loneliness for seniors living alone. Dietert Center’s Meals on Wheels Pet Partners program works with homebound seniors to provide supplemental pet food and access to veterinary care. Pet food assistance is sustained by donations from caring members of our community with over 825 pounds shared last year. Veterinary care is provided as funding is available through a generous grant from PetSmart Charities for this purpose. Last year, we helped at least 54 pets. Program Coordinator Trudy Sundin works with caring veterinary partners in Kerr County to maintain the health of these animals when their owners can no longer transport them to the vet.
