NEED HELP to stay in your home?
Our Community Services Department provides a range of services that can help you live in your home for as long as it’s practical. Our Community Services Coordinator can help determine what services and resources we can provide that will help you live safely and comfortably. Call Paula Harley at (830) 792-4044, ext. 244 to learn more. Some of the help we can provide includes: Emergency Response Systems – We use the PAL personal monitoring systems, which can be installed in your home with a standard phone jack, or mobile devices that can summon help anywhere you might be. A help button or mobile device is worn either around your neck, on your wrist, on your belt or in your pocket. If assistance is needed - any time, day or night, - a simple push of the button will connect you to the PAL Operator. You tell the operator what assistance is required and the operator will summon appropriate help. If you cannot communicate with the operator, help will be summoned, based on your predetermined preferences. There's an optional 'fall down detector' button available for both the home unit and mobile unit. If the device senses a fall, it will automatically contact the PAL Operator who will ask you if assistance is necessary. Monthly prices vary, according to the Dietert PAL device that is used. There is no equipment to buy or long-term contract required. Contact Rick Phipps, PAL Coordinator, at 830-792-4044, ext. 224, to determine what kind of PAL will best meet your needs. Medical Equipment Lending – Donated medical equipment, such as walkers, canes, bedside commodes, transfer benches, toilet risers, wheelchairs, etc. are loaned out on an ‘as needed’ basis. Reassurance Calls – If you live alone and just want to 'check in' with someone on a daily basis, get on our Reassurance Call list. After registering for this free service, our Reception Desk Volunteers will look forward to your morning call. If we don't hear from you, we'll contact the person you have designated to go and check on you. Handy Helper Service - If you need help with simple household tasks or repairs, like changing light bulbs or leaky faucets, our volunteer Handyman Service may be able to help. |
